Amazon, all-in bets, M&A, cloud consulting growth data points

It was a bit of a mixed bag this past week with major cloud wins, strategic developments and more numbers.

Amazon continues to drive growth from existing customers and this past week Shutterfly and Cox Automotive declared their intentions to go all-in on the AWS cloud. When organizations make the bet on cloud they are increasingly pointing to machine learning tools as a driver behind the decision. Amazon showed that is often the case and shared some interesting data points about machine learning adoption within its base, while also sharing metrics about the volume of database migrations it is seeing.

The global cloud build out continues and data centre operators continue to be in the middle of the expansion. This past week, we took a look at the latest from Colt Data Centre Services and how it is positioning to capture more of this infrastructure real estate on a global basis.

On the strategic side of things, there was more M&A around cloud consulting shops. HPE made another acquisition of a cloud consulting shop, but this time in the UK. Elsewhere, Zayo acquired a data centre in Virginia and GTT, which recently acquired Interoute, picked up Accelerated Connections in Canada.

The managed third party cloud market continues to pick up the pace and Logicworks shared some interesting data points about the growth trajectory of this line of business. We also got some insight into NTT-Netmagic’s recent performance.

We also continued our work through earnings season. This past week, we took a closer look at earnings from Endurance and Switch.
