It was a relatively busy week given the time of year, highlighted by several shuffles in executive circles, new product launches around edge infrastructure, data centre expansions and M&A.

The past week or so has seen a number of senior executives move to new organizations. In APAC, Australia’s AirTrunk brought in an Iron Mountain data centre centre executive as its new COO, STT GDC in Singapore hired an executive from Equinix to be the new CEO of Southeast Asia and the Rackspace GM in Australia moved over to a startup in the managed third party cloud space. In the US, AIS in San Diego placed a new CEO.

The edge continues to move from concept and the drawing board to real life implementations. EdgeMicro brought online its edge centre and revealed partners and a customer, while StackPath rolled out a new version of its edge services platform. Edge deployments require a number of different pieces and partnerships continue to emerge as providers look to address what is a crucial emerging market opportunity for independent providers.

On the M&A side, there were a few more developments. Plesk recently acquired SolusVM from OnApp, and also in the UK, Claranet bought a security firm. We also got a few more details about the Brookfield acquisition of the AT&T data centre portfolio. Elsewhere on the M&A side, there are more reports coming out about the possible acquisition of Brazil’s Ascenty.

Data centre expansions show no signs of slowing down. CoreSite is setting out to build a new campus in NoVA, Iron Mountain is expanding in Phoenix, while Sentinel acquired land for its own NoVA-based campus. Meanwhile, in Europe, Global Switch is building in Frankfurt. On the cloud side, Microsoft opened new regions in China.

Earnings season is around the corner and we have already seen some results from APAC and the UK that report on a six-month basis. We have some details on Thailand’s INET, UK-based SYSGroup and Redcentric, and China Mobile.
