Hyperscale, M&A, APAC, Europe, interconnection, earnings
It was a busy week that was highlighted with hyperscale expansions, M&A and more results coming out of earnings season.
There were a number of notable transactions across the ecosystem. In the SMB segment,Web.com made an acquisition in APAC, while One.com closed a deal in Finland. On the MSP side, Navisite bolstered its capabilities in SAP and managed third party cloud with an acquisition of a consulting shop, and in data centre, Interxion entered a new market with the purchase of Greece’s Lamda Hellix.
Hyperscale cloud and data centre expansion happened across the globe. In APAC, new operator SpaceDC came online in Jakarta, Indonesia, Korea Telecom launched a new Seoul data centre and AWS launched a new cloud region in Mumbai.
Europe saw a number of developments. AWS will add a new cloud region in Zurich, Vantage opened its new data centre in Frankfurt and Equinix will be building two new data centres in Manchester, UK. We also spoke to Equinix about its new developments in Poland, which is emerging as a new frontier in eastern Europe. Back in the US, there was meaningful self-build activity from the hyperscale arena as AWS confirmed plans to build more data centres in Ohio and Texas, while ByteDance has reportedly taken down over 50MW of capacity in NoVA alone. Finally, South Africa’s Teraco began building a fourth data centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.
As hyperscale expands, so does the interconnection footprint that drives connectivity to these platforms. PacketFabric recently extended its reach to Europe through Equinix and Interxion.
While hyperscale continues to expand, SMB and targeted providers are building new capabilities. Digital Ocean recently rolled out more automation and GoDaddy continues to churn out new capabilities.
Earnings season is moving along and we took a closer look at GoDaddy’s results, which showed resiliency amid a challenging environment.
