Structure Research Publishes Hong Kong Data Centre Supply Report 2017

  • May 16, 2017

Latest update adds further granularity to the most comprehensive report available about the Hong Kong third party data centre market.

TORONTO, Ontario and SINGAPORE – May 16, 2017 – Structure Research, a next-generation research firm focused on the global data centre and cloud infrastructure services industry, today announced the publication of its Hong Kong Data Centre Supply Report for 2017.

This 114-page report takes an in-depth look at the size, growth trajectory and supply and demand dynamics of the Hong Kong colocation market – from both a space and power perspective. It includes a 5-year CAGR projection, detailed market share statistics, utilization trend graphs, leaderboards, extensive regional breakdowns, SWOT analyses and insight and commentary. There is also a comprehensive directory of providers, operational data centres and listings of the current build pipeline.

The data and analytics presented are produced by Structure Research’s proprietary methodology that measures data centre capacity from both a space and power perspective. This is crucial because power is the truest unit of capacity in the data centre. Measuring on the basis of space alone – as some legacy research firms still do – only tells half the story.

The methodology also looks at sub-regional distribution within a given market. It measures the size, growth trajectory and supply and demand dynamics in each sub-region and it is also done from both a space and power perspective.

Structure Research is now slicing the data even further. All the relevant metrics – revenue, space, power, utilization and growth rates – are now identified as being retail or wholesale and presented in aggregate form and separately in these two categories.

Pricing analysis has increased in granularity as well. We have five-year colocation pricing projections for both retail and wholesale colocation and it is segmented on a sub-regional basis.

‘The Hong Kong data centre market is an excellent snapshot of how the market is shifting in Asia and around the globe,’ stated Jabez Tan, lead author of the report and Research Director for Structure Research. ‘The addition of retail and wholesale splits helps underscore one of the main storylines in Hong Kong – the shift to wholesale – and demonstrates why we are the default research option for data and intelligence on leading Asia-pacific markets’.

This is the second data centre supply report series published by Structure Research. We have published a Singapore Data Centre Supply Report and Sydney-Melbourne will be available in July 2017.

‘This report is literally and figuratively one of a kind. It is the bible of the Hong Kong colocation market,’ stated Philbert Shih, Managing Director of Structure Research. ‘Service providers, investors and enterprise end users need to read this report for a true understanding of the Hong Kong market’.
