Industry research models have not changed much over the last few decades. But it is about time to shake things up!
Structure Research was founded to create a more affordable, timely and streamlined model for industry research. Taking a cue from the sector, which has made extensive use of open source tools, we use a hybrid approach – open sourcing a certain portion of our research and making it freely available, while still charging for premium content. We hope that some free information and a two-way conversation will improve sharing and knowledge, create a better user experience and help keep costs down. Just as importantly, we believe designating premium content ensures that its quality is worthy of the price tag it asks for.
Timeliness is something else that industry research desperately needs. Traditional industry research is often published linearly at specified dates and times. Structure Research uses a non-linear publishing format. We deliver information more closely to when it happens and then come back and add perspective as we learn more about a development and properly follow-up with companies. We avoid haphazard summaries and take care to provide analysis and commentary that has research depth and insight.
Presentation is another missing piece within traditional industry research. Being smarter about how we write and present information is crucial. At Structure Research we are sensitive to people’s time constraints and the need for useful but easily readable information. To that end we provide snippets of information in bullet points or short sentences commensurate with the topic and development at hand. In cases where the content is easily attainable and offers no added depth than what is publicly disclosed, we simply do not charge for it. When more research and perspective is required, we provide just that. And everything is priced accordingly to ensure the price matches the quality and the customer gets full bang for the buck.
