M&A, APAC, SMB and managed third party cloud
It was a slower week with national holidays in Canada and the US, but there were still developments in the sector worth nothing.
There were a few notable strategic developments. OVH in France added more resources as it looks to continue its global expansion and building of proprietary data centres, while Microsoft acquired an Israel-based startup called Cloudyn. Meanwhile, down under, there was more consolidation as an Australia-based hoster picked up one one of the more prominent local Singaporean providers. Elsewhere, we have a few more details from the recent Peak 10 acquisition of ViaWest.
There was also more activity in managed third party cloud. Sungard has been contemplating this service line and confirmed bringing a new service to market, while we took a closer look at some of the things Atmosera has been doing with Azure. Managed third party cloud continues to see more automation tools as providers automate configurations, security policies and DR scenarios.
We recently published our SMB market update and we also have a few more metrics from the likes of EIG, Open-Xchange and WP Engine.
