Apple partners to build first mainland China data centre; service provider angle?
Apple confirmed that it plans to invest US$1b in Guizhou province to set up its first data centre in mainland China through a partnership with local data centre and cloud services firm Guizhou-Cloud Big Data Industry (GCBD). The move comes shortly after the Chinese government put into place stricter data sovereignty regulations which requires foreign firms to not only store data locally in country, but also having a local Chinese company deliver cloud services on behalf of the foreign firm.
