Equinix, M&A, hyperscale, edge

It was a shorter and less busier week with long weekends in the US and Canada, and Chinese New Year in APAC.

Earnings season is in full swing and this past week we took a closer look at Equinix’s results. On top of the recent M&A, such as the purchase of Infomart Dallas, which is pushing Equinix over the $5b annual revenue mark, the story this past quarter was about how hyperscale is going to fit into the Equinix model of the future.

Speaking of hyperscale, Google plans to expand in more US locations and Switch purchased energy from a solar farm in Nevada. Meanwhile, there is ongoing new company formation in the wholesale colocation space. There are the likes of CloudHQ and the latest we spoke to was EdgeCore.

The edge seems to be the latest emerging buzzword, but the concept appears to be coming into clearer focus. Compass Data Centers in Texas made a couple of acquisitions that will help it add an edge element to its build-to-suit capabilities.

Elsewhere on the M&A side of things, Evocative in California acquired Cyberverse, there is word that the UK’s Daisy Group may be looking for an exit and down under, another bid for managed third party cloud shop Bulletproof emerged.
