M&A, SMB, data centres, global activity
There was more M&A activity. Starting on the managed third party cloud side, Atos is starting to use M&A more aggressively to build its managed cloud practice. It acquired Chicago-based shop Maven Wave to enhance its capabilities, particularly with Google Cloud. On the SMB and software side, CVC Capital acquired a stake in hosting and cloud automation software vendor WebPros and Acronis picked up 5nine to expand its security and management capabilities around the Microsoft platform. Also on the security side, Cloudflare acquired S2 Systems for its browser isolation technology.
There were also a number of transactions on the data centre side with Keppel DC REIT, ServerFarm and Ark active acquiring land and assets. Meanwhile, Colony Capital recently acquired an increased stake in DataBank, while disclosing a number of useful metrics about leasing, and Interxion took a majority stake in a Kenyan data centre operator.
The sector continues to see global activity. China Mobile International opened its first European data centre and Atos formed a joint venture to provide managed third party cloud services in China.
