It was another busy week, with more M&A activity across the sector.

The biggest deal, as mentioned last week, was the Vantage Data Centers acquisition of Etix Everywhere. The deal comes with a hyperscale site in Frankfurt and a number of edge sites. Vantage is using the acquisition to accelerate its entry into the European market, where it has already procured land and power in a number of emerging hyperscale markets. We have details.

Data centre operators, like Vantage, are looking more closely at edge markets and edge compute scenarios, and we have a few more details coming out of the Equinix acquisition of Packet.

There was also M&A activity on the SMB side of things. One.com in Europe acquired another Norwegian hoster, while GoDaddy acquired a domain registrar and domain marketplace. Meanwhile, SMB provider Locaweb went public in Brazil.

On the data centre side, Digital Realty took over full ownership of the Westin property in Seattle, French operator Euclyde entered the Paris market with an enterprise data centre buy and 5G Networks in Australia purchased a facility in Sydney.

Earnings season is moving along and we took a closer look at CoreSite’s results and provide some comments on Akamai’s results and outlook. Google reported its results and broke out its cloud segment in a bit more detail. And on the private side, IXcellerate in Russia shared some data points on its growth.

Finally, service providers continued to expand globally. Connectria opened up its first European data centre location and Cloudflare is set to move more aggressively into edge locations through a new partnership with micro data centre operator EdgeMicro.
