It was another busy week across the sector, with earnings season kicking off, more M&A activity and a number of interesting developments coming out of the Canadian market.

There were a number of interesting transactions on the data centre side. Serverfarm acquired a data centre in Los Angeles, while for the second time, Cologix acquired a data centre from vXchnge; this time in Santa Clara. Meanwhile, on the managed third party cloud side, Ensono acquired cloud consultancy AmdioClaranet did another cloud MSP deal in Brazil and Accenture acquired Core Compete to enhance its cloud analytics capabilities.

There were other strategic developments of note. Constant, parent to cloud provider Vultr, closed a $150m credit facility and brought in new management, Iron Mountain completed its JV with India’s Web Werks and Green Mountain acquired more land in Norway to support future expansions.

The Canadian market saw some interesting activity in the past week. Cyxtera expanded its bare metal footprint to the Toronto market, while Amazon announced a series of renewable energy projects that includes a development in Alberta, Canada. The site could have someimplications for AWS’s future expansion plans in Canada. Also in Toronto, we look at how commercial real estate is being impacted by the pandemic and the possible ramifications for operators with facilities in downtown cores.

We came across another customer win that involved a repatriation from public cloud back to traditional outsourced infrastructure. Correlian Software moved back to colocation and vXchnge was the beneficiary. Migration to cloud, however, continues to move at a brisk pace and public cloud platforms are helping. Oracle’s newest tool is Cloud Lift and aimed at making cloud migration an easier process.

Finally, earnings season is already kicking into gear again and we took a look at the growth coming from interconnection and connectivity provider Megaport.
