The sector continued to push forward and saw another wave of activity aimed at pushing infrastructure platforms into global markets.

Equinix made its entry into Africa with the acquisition of Nigeria’s MainOne, while Digital Edge in APAC set up a JV to enter the emerging Manila, Philippines marketSTACK Infrastructure is pushing into APAC as well, with a new Singapore HQ, and looks to be close with a second Canadian location.

On the cloud side, Tencent Cloud entered LatAm for the first time and settled in the Sao Paolo market.

The global integrators and consultancies are pushing out globally as well. Atos recently made an acquisition in Canada and has acquired UK-based Cloudreach, an early entrant into managed public cloud with an enterprise focus and multi-cloud support. Ingram Micro also made an MSP acquisition in Brazil as it looks more closely at managed public cloud services.

There was more expansion activity in Europe. Yondr is building in FrankfurtSUPERNAP Italia opened a second Milan data centreGreen Mountain began building a third data centre at its Oslo, Norway campus, while Vantage set up its London, UK office as it looks to expand deeper into EMEA.

There was also edge data centre movement in Australia, with NEXTDC aiming to build out in more edge markets and Equinix bringing online a new Perth-based data centre.

Finally, on the strategic side, Digital Realty completed a Singapore IPO listing and Larry Ellison made some remarks that again show his propensity to misunderstand the challenges and dynamics of the public cloud game. Despite that, a new Oracle Cloud partnership with Cloudflare targeting egress fees is a good move.
