C-level appointments, technology, M&A, Ashburn, Singapore moratorium
The beginning of the year often sees a significant amount of shuffling in executive circles and this year was no exception.
On the data centre side, DataBank, Equinix and EdgeConneX brought in new c-level executives, while CoreSite confirmed a new management team as it begins a new stage as part of American Tower. In the MSP space, there were a number of new executives coming on board at Ntirety, Netrix and security vendor Acronis.
The M&A arena continues to see activity and there were a couple of transactions around technology, with Ensono acquiring mainframe consulting firm ExperSolve and 2nd Watch picking up data and analytics firm Aptitive. Meanwhile, ColoHouse continues its consolidation efforts and bought Chicago-based provider Steadfast Networks and Cordiant Digital Infrastructure acquired New York-based colocation provider DataGryd.
Elsewhere, there was more activity in the Ashburn, Virginia area. STACK Infrastructure is building a new hyperscale data centre campus and new entrant Corscale Data Centers is building a campus in NoVA as well.
The builds around Ashburn are pushing further and further out. Land is not an issue in this market, but in other parts of the world it is. A mature market like Singapore faces severe land constraints and the government has put a pause on new builds as it evaluates data centre development rules and regulations. After a long wait, the Singaporean government has released guidance and lifted the moratorium. Over time, this is going to drive significant shifts in the landscape. We have details and analysis.
