Earnings, managed public cloud, M&A, APAC, Manila, expansions
A busy week saw results from earnings season, data points around managed public cloud providers, M&A, data centre developments and more activity in the rapidly emerging market in Manila.
Digital Realty and Digital Ocean represent different parts of the ecosystem, but both continue to progress and their 4Q21 results reveal discernible patterns that speak to the consistency inherent to the infrastructure services business model. We looked at Rackspace’s results last week and most of its peer group in managed public cloud is privately held. But the likes of Effectual and Claranet Group shared some interesting data points about their progress.
There was more strategic activity and M&A. Another infrastructure-oriented investor entered the space as Argo Infrastructure Partners acquired a stake in data centre operator TierPoint. Meanwhile, connectivity-oriented data centres in second tier markets continue to garner interest and Deep Edge Realty acquired an asset in Maine. Technology remains a driver and Cloudflare acquired email security vendor Area 1 Security, while Pulsant acquired a data centre in Reading and CIM Group and Cologix formed a JV to build a wholesale data centre in the Toronto area.
We tracked a number of developments last week coming out of the Philippines and there was yet more activity. STT GDC in Singapore formed a JV to enter that market, while another new entrant targeting Manila surfaced. New market entrants continue to pop up in APAC and the latest will develop an initial location in South Korea, while another project is pushing forward in Japan. STACK Infrastructure entered APAC recently and merged a few assets in Europe to target the EMEA region.
Other data centre developments involved the likes of NTT GDC, CoreSite, Teledata, Ark Data Centres and Aligned.
