M&A, MSP, Cloud, storage, subsea cables, APAC, expansions, post-mortem
There was steady activity moving into the holiday long weekend highlighted by M&A, partnerships and product releases, subsea cable expansion and developments in the emerging MEA region.
On the M&A side, Netrality Data Centers acquired a facility in Indianapolis from 365 Data Centers as it looks to expand its connectivity hub there, while Nuveen entered the sector with an acquisition in Hong Kong and Fastly picked up some technology to augments its edge computing capabilities. Meanwhile, Macquarie Asset Management partnered with NTT for its hyperscale portfolio in North America and Europe.
There were a number of partnerships that enabled new products and offerings. MSP and cloud providers Rackspace and OVH teamed up with vendors on the storage side, while Virtuozzo rolled out new product releases for enabling WordPress and lightweight infrastructure services.
Subsea cable development continues to push forward around the globe and it will have a big impact on where hyperscale builds out regions and AZs. The latest of note is the Topaz project that is connecting Vancouver in Canada across to Japan in APAC. We have some details and discussion.
There was also plenty more data centre expansion activity. Telehouse opened its newest London data centre and is developing a new facility in Bangkok, Thailand, while there were multiple developments in MEA. EDGNEX is a new player that will focus its initial efforts in Saudi Arabia, while connectivity nodes came online in multiple markets.
Finally, we have some more details on the fire that destroyed OVH data centres in France.
