Earnings, Europe, APAC, hyperscale expansions, legacy workloads, managed public cloud, formation
The past week definitely had a global feel as developments came out of multiple global markets.
We have moved into the tail end of earnings season and we took a closer look at the results coming from France’s OVH, Hong Kong’s SUNeVision and CDN and edge provider Edgio.
Hyperscale expansion continues to move into new frontiers. AWS added edge nodes in two Vietnam markets, while it also brought online a cloud region in the UAE. The growth of cloud is pushing managed public cloud services into new markets as well. Rackspace won a managed AWS customer in Colombia and Bespin Global entered the market in Indonesia. Meanwhile, in the SMB space, WP Engine expanded into APAC and shared data points on its regional progress.
There were some customer wins of note that highlight the opportunity in legacy workloads and the willingness of customers – at least smaller ones that are able to change course more easily – move between public clouds. Lemongrass moved a customer’s SAP environment from an on-premise deployment to AWS and Google Cloud won a customer from AWS.
Finally, there was more new company formation. PowerHouse Data Centers is planning to push into the NoVA market and added to its management team.
