M&A, realignment, CEOs, appointments, expansions, cloud, hyperscale

It was a busy week across the sector, highlighted by M&A activity, a wave of movement in executive circles and expansion activity across global markets.

The sector continues to see more realignment. INAP has sold its network assets and has now divested nine US-based data centres to Evocative, which has officially re-branded under the Evocative brand after closing a number of acquisitions in the last several years. Meanwhile, infrastructure-oriented investors continue to show interest in the sector, and Igneo Infrastructure Partners is the latest, acquiring Michigan-based US Signal. Consolidation continues to drive activity and this has spilled over into the master agent space. Telarus has been looking to scale through acquisition and its latest transaction involved a Florida-based distributor. In Europe, Datum acquired Teledata and expanded into the Manchester market, Etix acquired assets in France and VIRTUS got a fresh new investment as it eyes expansion into new markets. Over in APAC, we have updated details about the FLOW acquisition of DXN.

Executive movement continues to be plentiful. CyrusOne now has a new CEO, while STACK Infrastructure elevated senior executives into new C-level roles. Other providers adding to their executive teams included Aptum TechnologiesDatumLeaseweb and Zayo Group.

Operators are expanding at a steady rate. Yondr is building in Berlin, GermanyDigital Edge is adding a second downtown Jakarta data centre, the AdaniConneX JV revealed plans for aggressive expansion in IndiaAligned is expanding in Dallas, while Novva Data Centers is set to build a new campus in Las Vegas.

There was more activity in cloud. Vultr expanded its global footprint in Asia, Rackspace continues to see momentum in Mexico and CloudWave rolled out a new on-premise solution that replicates its cloud-based experience for healthcare providers. CDN and security continues to see uptake and AVANT partnered with Akamai to expand the capabilities it offers its channel partners, advisors and distributors.

Finally, Oracle released its results and offered some details about the cloud infrastructure business.
