Another busy week saw more from earnings season, strategic moves, executive appointments and more activity coming out of the developing AI-oriented cloud provider segment.
Earnings season continued and we looked at more results coming out of the cloud infrastructure sector. OVHcloud, Fastly and GoDaddy reported in recent weeks and showed interesting growth dynamics that point to a stabilizing sector. Meanwhile, Brookfield Infrastructure Partners shared data points about its expanding global data centre portfolio.
There were more strategic developments of note. ChinData has been in and out of strategic discussions and things seem to have reached the finish line as Bain Capital is set to take ChinData private in a deal to be worth $3.2b. In other moves, CapitaLand acquired a data centre in London and IXAfrica bought land for a second campus in Nairobi, Kenya.
The week also saw more shuffling in executive circles. Canada-based MSP Aptum brought in a new CEO and CRO, while in Europe, NorthC and atNorth hired new senior executives.
The webscale and AI segments continue to be significant consumers of data centre colocation. CoreWeave has been taking down capacity and is growing at an aggressive pace, but there is chatter that supply chain issues may moderate that growth somewhat. Elsewhere,Tesla has used some colocation, but there are developments behind the scene that point to the possible use of a more aggressive self-build data centre strategy.
