It was a slower week as North America moved into the Labour Day long weekend, but there was notable strategic activity, some interesting product launches and we take a look at some of the more noteworthy developments over the past month in our monthly insights roundup.
The sector continues to recalibrate and realign and this is the theme of our upcoming infra / STRUCTURE executive summit to be held in Toronto on October 4-5 (f you have not registered, do it now). The latest move saw Akamai pick up the CDN customer base of StackPath as the latter exits the CDN business. Operators continue to divest assets that are underperforming or no longer fit its overall strategy. Meanwhile, in other M&A developments, Claranet in the UK acquired ADTsys in Brazil.
There was some notable activity in product development. AWS rolled out a new product called Dedicated Local Zones that is geared to on-premise installations. This is a fully managed service, built on the Outposts appliance, that is meant to help organizations accommodate unique data sovereignty requirements. In other product moves, Cyxtera partnered with HPE for bare metal and released a new TCO assessment service, while Rackspace released new migration services in partnership with Google.
Finally, we take a look at some of the more important trends emerging or active in the last month. AI is top of mind, but we also look at how webscale platforms are expanding, while digging into the main takeaways from an earnings season that saw signs the worst of the slowdown period is gradually coming to an end.
