Executive shuffling, M&A, expansions, global markets, new platforms, migrations
The past week saw continued shuffling in executive circles, significant US data centre expansion activity and more development in established and emerging hyperscale markets.
A number of operators added to their senior management teams. Both Sabey Data Centers and CyrusOne brought in new CFOs, while Fastly has a new chief product officer. Elsewhere, cloud infrastructure provider Faction has a new CEO after being acquired by ORIX USA.
There was significant data centre expansion activity in a number of US markets. STACK Infrastructure revealed plans for a large build in Northern Virginia, DataBank moved forward with plans for a second expansion at its Salt Lake City data centre and TierPoint acquired a new data centre in Dallas. On the edge side, 1623 Farnam expanded capacity at its connectivity hub in Omaha, Nebraska.
The sector continues to grow and attract capital that is doubling down in established markets, while pushing into new emerging markets around the world. AVAIO Digital Partners is a new operating platform that is targeting several markets in the US and Canada, while on the international side, Digital Realty continues its push in Africa and we have details.
Finally, the migration from on-premise to outsourced infrastructure and cloud continues for the large enterprise space. We take a closer look at the decision Toshiba made to move file servers to cloud-based storage.
