Hyperscale, GPU clouds, interoperability, APAC, cloud regions, data centre expansions
Things continue to move forward amid public holiday season in many parts of the world. The past week saw significant developments in the hyperscale arena, more GPU cloud expansions and data centre expansion activity.
The competitive landscape for hyperscale cloud is seeing ongoing change and alignment. Oracle Cloud continues to push forward with interoperability agreements, partnering up with Google Cloud to enable hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure deployment scenarios. Oracle Cloud already has an interoperability agreement with Microsoft Azure as well. The partnerships are about knocking down walled gardens within the cloud landscape and this will have a spin-off effect on data centre colocation and interconnection demand.
In APAC, Chinese hyperscale clouds continue to adjust amid various market headwinds. Alibaba Cloud made the decision to shut down its cloud infrastructure regions in Australia and India amid sluggish demand and geopolitical dynamics. Alibaba Cloud continues to expand in emerging markets such as LatAm and Southeast Asia where it does not have to face as many of these issues.
GPU clouds continue to build out infrastructure as demand accelerates. CoreWeave has expanded aggressively in multiple US locations and dedicated to pick up on options with colocation partner Core Scientific. This was done not too long after the original deal was signed, speaking to the pace at which things are moving.
Finally, there was more data centre expansion activity. Stream Data Centers broke ground in San Antonio, Texas, ST Engineering disclosed plans to build a new facility in Singapore and in global markets, Edged Energy is pushing forward in Spain and Portugal, while Digital Parks Africa is expanding in South Africa.
