Hyperscale, earnings, self-builds, hybrid data centres, AI, APAC, land parcels, outages
A busy week saw earnings season get moving, with the hyperscale platforms first to report. We take a closer look at results coming from AWS, Microsoft, Google and Meta. The hyperscalers had another healthy quarter as growth has shown signs of reaccelerating after a period of relative sluggishness. CapEx figures also climbed and are strong indicators of demand signals and how things are expected to track to going forward.
Hyperscalers continue to build out data centre infrastructure and self-builds continue. In Taiwan and Uruguay, for example, hyperscalers are self-building cloud infrastructure regions. AI demand has been driving the CapEx increases and we take a look at how hybrid data centres, serving both traditional public cloud and AI, are increasingly common.
APAC continued to see extensive activity. Equinix acquired land in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, AirTrunk brought online its first phase in Johor, Malaysia and Telin partnered with BW Digital to develop a new subsea cable.
There was also activity in NoVA. QTS acquired land parcels outside of Richmond, Virginia and DataBank broke ground on a new Ashburn, VA data centre.
Finally, we have a few comments on the infrastructure impact of the recent cloud outage brought on by issues with the CrowdStrike security platform.
