Colocation, back to the future, executive shuffles, interconnection, growth, expansions
It was another busy week across the sector. There was more strategic activity, shuffles in executive circles, notable activity in APAC and some very interesting product developments.
Rackspace grabbed the headlines on the product side with the launch of a revamped colocation product line. Rackspace’s move into colocation speaks to how service portfolios need to be diverse as the shift to outsourcing continues, while also underscoring how a ‘traditional’ service is a big part of the emerging managed third party cloud puzzle.
The strategic side of the game saw more activity. Etix Everywhere brought in another investor as it looks to build data centres globally, while provides like Uniserve in Canada and Immedion in the US completed acquisitions.
There were some noteworthy changes in leadership circles, with Cologix bringing in Bill Fathers as its CEO, while WP Engine promoted executives internally to senior leadership roles.
The APAC region also saw a number of interesting developments. PCCW launched a new interconnection service and India’s CtrlS revealed plans to build a number of new data centres in India.
We are mostly through the latest earnings season, but we got to take a closer look at Alibaba Cloud’s recent results, which were extremely strong. On the private side, UKFast released details of its steady positive growth trajectory.
Finally, there were more data centre builds and purchases of land. CyrusOne and QTS acquired land in Arizona and Oregon, while Sabey, Vantage and ROOT continued to build and expand existing campuses and locations.
