M&A, hyperscale, consulting, on-boarding, earnings, managed third party cloud
It was another busy week. Earnings season continued, there was significant activity on the M&A side of things and the hyperscale clouds continue to grow and drive both new and existing customer uptake.
M&A activity centred around cloud and hosting services. We saw another cloud consultancy purchase with Cloudreach in the UK acquiring AWS shop Relus Cloud. Meanwhile, over in The Netherlands, TransIP acquired IT-Ernity as the Dutch SMB market continues to see consolidation activity.
The most interesting transaction was the Cox Business acquisition of RapidScale. The deal came about through a recently established channel partnership and is an indication of how strategic buying of cloud and hosting assets coming from outside the sector is still taking place.
All the major hyperscale clouds were active in the past week. Google and Microsoft continue to expand their footprint and AWS and IBM continue to win customers. Notably, many of Amazon’s wins show a significant amount of installed customer growth.
The managed third party cloud market continues to move forward and we came across some interesting data points from SHI International that point to its growth potential.
On the earnings side, we took a closer look at the results coming from Equinix, CyrusOne and TeraGo Networks.
