Global markets, Europe, cloud, MSP, SMB
It was another busy week with activity across the sector spanning the globe.
In Europe, a new platform – Global Compute Infrastructure – was established to pursue the global hyperscale opportunity and its first investment was made in Poland. We had a chance to speak with management and get more details. Over in Asia, there were a number of developments on the hyperscale data centre side. ChinData launched a new data centre in Shanxi, China, Colt DCS brought online a new data centre in Tokyo, Equinix confirmed a new build in Perth, Australia and Macquarie Data Centres signed a large pre-lease in Sydney.
In other global markets, NTT GDC broke ground in Madrid, Spain, DataPro opened a second data centre in Moscow, Telecom Egypt is building a new Cairo data centre and Pi Datacenters in India shared some data points about pricing and deployment sizes.
The US market also saw a number of developments. Flexential expanded in Atlanta, Prime Data Centers revealed new plans in Silicon Valley and PhoenixNAP is adding network density and shared data points about its recent progress on the colocation side of its business.
Large organizations continue to bet on the public cloud. Capital One completed its all-in move to cloud, while born on the cloud firm Airbnb confirmed its primary cloud provider. The ecosystem around cloud continues to grow, particularly in the MSP arena. Onix is building a managed Google Cloud practice, Logicworks won an AWS customer and 2nd Watch is partnering with NetApp to augment its managed AWS services.
