M&A, SMB, edge, LatAm, Europe and APAC
The recent few weeks were highlighted by a surge of M&A activity that carried over a bit from late last year. On the data centre, side, another carrier hotel property was acquired by 1547 and a new vehicle, Strategic Data Center, acquired a fully let facility in Baltimore.
The MSP space saw Navisite complete its third acquisition since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and was the largest deal it has done. Navisite acquired Velocity Technology Solutions with an eye to enhancing its ERP application hosting portfolio and managed third party cloud capabilities. There was also M&A activity in the SMB space. Clearlake Capital Group acquired a stake in Web.com after acquiring Endurance International late last year, while Liquid Web acquired another piece of WordPress technology. Elsewhere in M&A, Gigas in Spain completed a deal and DaaS provider Dizzion took on new investors.
The edge continues to develop, and as we move into the new year, more over the top predictions have been made. We take a closer look at some of the pronouncements by analysts at Forrester and Gartner and inject some of our analysis.
Latin America continues to see more expansion activity. StackPath took its edge platform to a number of new markets in the region, while Google confirmed plans to set up shop in Chile.
It was somewhat quiet in APAC over the last week, but DCI Data Centres in Australia confirmed a substantial new build in Sydney.
