M&A, hyperscale, cloud expansion, growth data points, APAC, Equinix, Oracle Cloud
The past week saw more M&A activity, hyperscale cloud expansion, data points from privately held operators, several developments in APAC, while both Equinix and Oracle Cloud were busy.
There were a number of noteworthy developments in M&A. On the interconnection and connectivity side, PacketFabric acquired cloud storage provider RSTOR in a deal that gives it a new capability and expands its addressable market. Over in Europe and the UK, Digital Realty made a strategic investment in Atlas Edge and Infratil acquired a stake in Kao Data, while in APAC, DigitalBridge and Columbia Capital purchased select assets from Superloop. In other deals, Akamai acquired Guardicore, Goldman Sachs took a majority stake in Syntax and Redcentric added public cloud capabilities with the acquisition of Piksel.
The hyperscale clouds continue to expand and Oracle Cloud confirmed plans to build in a number of new markets on a global basis. Meanwhile, Oracle Cloud continues to gain traction and the Oracle Cloud VMware Solution was a driver behind a few recent wins, and one of them had OCI-Azure interoperability as a key selling point.
The APAC region saw more expansion activity. DCI Data Centres revealed plans to build in Darwin, Australia, Chief Telecom broke ground on a new data centre in Taiwan and both Digital Edge and Equinix brought facilities online in Osaka, Japan.
Equinix continues to push forward with its global xScale build-outs. It opened its first xScale facilities in both Frankfurt and LatAm.
Elsewhere, with earnings season approaching, privately held AirTrunk and Logicworksshared data points that provide insight into their current growth trajectory, while iomart disclosed a trading update with less than stellar results.
Finally, in executive circles, Digital Ocean brought in a new chief product officer from Microsoft Azure and Navisite moved its president and COO into a strategic role.
