Reports indicate Microsoft Azure experiencing capacity availability constraints; lessons, implications
Some excellent reporting from tech publication The Information, citing multiple sources close to Microsoft (including large customers), confirmed that the Azure cloud has been operating in the yellow zone. A tier below the green zone, this means that cloud server resources are operating at less than normal levels of availability (while varied across locations, the yellow zone is meant to measure capacity on global basis). The problems, not surprisingly, are driven by unprecedented global demand for cloud services, but also point to various challenges Microsoft is having with supply chains, overall capacity planning, multiple AZ construction and data centre procurement.
