C-Suite shuffling, M&A, APAC, Europe, data centre expansions, connectivity, SMB

The sector continued to push forward during a busy week, with shuffling in executive circles, some M&A and more data centre expansions.

There were a number of changes in the C-Suite. Keppel DC REIT confirmed plans to bring in a new CEOEdgio hired a chief revenue officer from the Elemental streaming arm at AWS, while Digital Realty also brought in a CRO and maincubes in Germany named a new chief financial officer.

The past week saw developments in M&A that were very global in scope. UK-based iomart Group acquired a managed Azure shopnLIighten entered the French data centre market through the acquisition of Euclyde Data Centres and in APAC, Australia’s Edge Centres purchased Host Networks. Meanwhile, in other strategic developments, publicly traded Cyxtera filed for bankruptcy and MEEZA in Qatar is preparing for an IPO.

Data centre expansion activity continued to move forward. Cologix revealed plans for a new data centre in MontrealEquinix opened a third data centre in DubaiData4 opened a new campus in Warsaw, Poland and DC BLOX confirmed plans to build a second subsea cable landing station in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

We also tracked a number of developments around connectivity. EXA Infrastructure has been busy in Europe, DE-CIX brought online new nodes in the Nordics and there was a cable launch in southern Europe.

Finally, we took a closer look at the results coming from GoDaddy, which is a good bellwether for how the SMB sector has responded to the current macroeconomic headwinds. And Equinix shared an interesting data point around sustainability and how it is factoring into current and future colocation contracts.
