Philbert Shih is the Founder and Managing Director of Structure Research, an independent Toronto and Singapore-based research and consulting firm devoted to the cloud and data centre infrastructure services markets with a specialization in the hyperscale value chain.

Mr. Shih is based in Toronto and has covered the infrastructure services space for over 20 years. His coverage of the sector is global in scope and extends across the broader Internet infrastructure value chain. He is the conference chair for the annual infra / STRUCTURE summit and heads up the Structure Research consulting practice, which has advised and provided subject matter expertise for transactions across data centre, cloud and managed hosting, with over $3b in value.

Prior to founding Structure Research in 2011, Mr. Shih was the first hosting infrastructure analyst hired after Tier1 Research was sold to The 451 Group (2005) and spent six years as Senior Analyst for managed hosting and cloud. In this role, Mr. Shih helped launch Tier1’s coverage of hosting and cloud in international markets and was the lead and contributing author to all of the company’s quarterly and bi-annual hosting infrastructure sector reports.

Prior to joining Tier1 Research, Mr. Shih spent more than four years covering the web hosting industry – three of them as Senior Staff Writer for The Web Host Industry Review’s online and print publications. At theWHIR, Mr. Shih covered companies in the SMB and enterprise hosting, cloud and colocation segments.

Mr. Shih holds an MA in Political Science from the University of British Columbia with a specialization in political economic development.

Jabez Tan is the Head of Research at Structure Research, an independent Toronto and Singapore-based research and consulting firm devoted to the cloud and data centre infrastructure services markets, with a specialization in the hyperscale value chain.

Mr. Tan’s coverage focuses on the data centre infrastructure market – primarily retail and hyperscale colocation providers – but also interconnection and cloud infrastructure companies. Ainsley Woods is a Senior Research Analyst with Structure Research, an independent Toronto and Singapore-based research and consulting firm devoted to the cloud and data centre

Ms. Woods is based in Toronto and her coverage focuses on the data centre infrastructure market – primarily retail and wholesale colocation providers – but also interconnection, managed services and cloud infrastructure companies.

Sacha Kavanagh is a UK-based freelance analyst with more than 20 years of experience researching and writing about data centres, cloud, IoT, enterprise technology and telecommunications. She joined Structure Research in 2015 where her coverage is focused on EMEA and Latin America. She is the lead author for Structure Research’s data centre and interconnection reports for key European markets.

Mrs. Kavanagh is a director of Ocean Point Limited, which in 2019 became a member of the VIVACE community, providing expertise and capabilities to the Accelerated Capability Environment (ACE), a Home Office unit within the Office for Security and Counter Terrorism (OSCT).

Mrs. Kavanagh was previously a contributor to 5g.co.uk, for which she researched and wrote guides on topics and technologies from network slicing to AI, and the tactile Internet to compound semiconductors. She previously worked for DCD Intelligence, the research arm of Datacenter Dynamics, where she wrote case studies on colocation providers and reports on topics including network virtualization and the use of colocation and cloud services by financial and e-gambling companies. She has previously written blogs, reports and case studies about IoT for IoTUK/Digital Catapult, and spent seven years at independent research firm OTR Global.

Mrs. Kavanagh has previously been contracted to Global Data to write blogs, reports and case studies about IoT for IoTUK/Digital Catapult, as well as extensive reporting and analysis into BYOD and tablet usage in the UK public sector. Mrs. Kavanagh previously spent seven years at independent research firm OTR Global, producing up-to-the minute research on companies, trends and technologies in enterprise technology, data centre and telecoms.

Justin Saputra is a Research Associate with Structure Research, an independent Toronto and Singapore-based research and consulting firm devoted to the Internet infrastructure ecosystem, with a specialization in the hyperscale value chain.

Mr. Saputra currently resides in Jakarta, Indonesia and his coverage is focused on the data centre, interconnection and cloud markets in APAC, while also supporting public company, M&A and data centre metric tracking for all of Structure Research’s proprietary datasets.

Todd Smith has over 15 years of extensive experience within the technology properties arena after starting his career in security and risk management consulting. Starting with CyrusOne in 2007, Mr. Smith gained valuable experience in numerous facets of the data centre industry across sales, client support and operations.

Since leaving CyrusOne in 2013, Mr. Smith has provided consulting and advisory services aimed at those needing expert support in the rapidly changing world of technology-oriented real estate. He has led the technical and commercial aspects of projects supporting investors, landlords and tenants that are investing in, operating and procuring technology-oriented properties for uses such as data centre colocation, cloud infrastructure, business continuity and contact centre.

Mr. Smith joined Structure Research as a senior consulting analyst in 2023 and is focused on providing in-depth data and insights on the emerging hyperscale and edge markets of Latin America. Mr. Smith also supports Structure Research clients that need advanced advisory support around data centre business development, market assessment and strategic decision-making.

Mr. Smith is fluent in Spanish and holds a BA from Texas Christian University.
